Key facts
- Barndominiums are among the most common rural build calls around Tyler.
- Most shells take about two months on site; finish-out can add more.
- Send a map pin — rural lots often have no street address yet.
- Set the unit on the gravel drive, not on fresh fill or red clay.
When should the porta potty arrive for a barndominium?
The day before the first crew — usually the framers or the slab crew. A barndominium owner in our log called the evening before framing began. That still works in Smith County if you order by 2 PM. Plan about two months for most shells, then decide whether to keep it for finish-out.
“They are coming to start framing tomorrow. So I don't know if it's that fast of a turnaround.”

What does a barndominium rental cost?
About $179–$199 every 28 days with weekly service, plus a one-time $49 delivery. Pickup is free. A two-month build costs about $407–$447 in total. Other quotes in our log ran $361 for the first month and $225 for each month after, so ask every company for the full-project total.
| Build length | Cycles | Typical Tyler total |
|---|---|---|
| 6–8 weeks | 2 | $407–$447 |
| 3 months | 4 | $765–$845 |
| 6 months | 7 | $1,302–$1,442 |
Where does the unit go on a rural build lot?
Beside the gravel drive or construction entrance, on firm ground, 10–20 feet from the slab, where the service truck can reach it every week. Keep it off fresh fill and out of drainage swales — East Texas red clay holds water after storms. Tell us about cattle guards and locked gates.

Questions callers asked us
We're building a barndominium. When should the porta potty arrive?
The day before framing starts. A barndominium owner in our log called the evening before the framers arrived — “they are coming to start framing tomorrow” — and asked if that was too fast. In Smith County it usually isn't, if you order by 2 PM. Plan about two months for most barndominium shells.
The city says I need a porta potty for my building permit. Can you help?
Yes. Many residential permits require a jobsite toilet once work starts. We deliver a standard unit on a 28-day cycle with weekly service and can text a rental confirmation for your permit file. Schedule it for your expected start date and move the date for free if the permit is late.
How many porta potties does my crew need?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Our units include a urinal. A 68-unit apartment build that starts with a few framers can begin with two units and add more as trades arrive.
It rained. Can you still deliver on red clay?
Usually, if the truck can stay on the driveway or road. Our trucks don't drive onto soaked red clay or fresh sod, because they rut the yard. The driver sets the unit on the nearest firm ground and calls you. For farms and new build lots, a gravel pad or the end of the drive is ideal.
How often do you clean a monthly porta potty?
Once a week, included in the 28-day price: pump the tank, scrub the seat, floor and walls, wipe the sink, and restock paper, sanitizer and deodorizer. Big crews or summer heat can add a second weekly visit for a quoted price.
Can I keep a porta potty for six months?
Yes. Monthly rentals renew every 28 days at the same rate with weekly service, and you can stop any time — billing ends on the day you call for pickup. Callers have kept units for camper stays, lake-lot builds and deer-lease seasons.
